Our Stories
At USEL we have endless amounts of personal success stories to share
Seamus
Workable NI Client
After a serious road traffic accident, Seamus faced ongoing challenges with balance, mobility, and short-term memory all of which made work increasingly difficult. Over time, these barriers affected his confidence at work and led to a great deal of anxiety and difficulty sleeping.
Through the Workable NI programme, Seamus was supported by Employment Support Officer, Teresea, who worked closely with him, his sister, and his employer to find practical solutions. Teresea helped open up communication with management, arranged workplace adjustments, and delivered disability awareness training across the organisation.
With this support in place, Seamus was able to return to work feeling confident about his role in the organisation. He feels better able to communicate with his line manager and feels more supported in the workplace.

Simon
Ability Cafe
Simon joined USEL in 2019 after facing challenges in securing long-term employment that truly suited his skills and passions. As someone on the autism spectrum , he found it difficult to adapt to traditional workplaces, despite his deep love for cooking.
However, at USEL’s Ability Cafés, Simon discovered an inclusive and supportive environment where he could thrive. Through hands-on experience and dedicated mentorship, he has honed his culinary skills, building confidence and expertise in the kitchen. Today, Simon is a valued team member, proving that with the right opportunities, talent and passion can flourish.
Michele
USEL Reception
Michele has been a dedicated member of the USEL team for 28 years. Over the years, she has faced many challenges, but the kindness and support of her colleagues have made a lasting impact.
Michele’s dedication and hard work have earned her a place on The Shaw Trust List and an award for Outstanding Business Support Services. Working at USEL has allowed her to not only help others but also support her favourite charities, making her role both fulfilling and meaningful.

John

John has been a valued member of the USEL team for 17 years, working in recycling. As a profoundly deaf individual, he has shown incredible dedication and resilience in his role. His commitment to his work and his strong work ethic make him an essential part of the team.
Through his time at USEL, John has made a significant impact, contributing to a more sustainable future while thriving in an inclusive and supportive environment.
